I've made over 3,000 videos for skincare brands, and for most of that time I was stuck at Level 1 too. So I want to walk you up the ladder. Six levels. Three hours of footage costs you three hours, plus the cutting. This is where most people are. It's why the footage sits on the drive. And it's not a discipline problem. Better. You skip the scrubbing. Two problems. You're still the only person on earth who can find anything. And you only wrote down the moments you noticed. The best clip is usually the one nobody noticed while it was happening. A half sentence. An aside. It's the one I tried. You get back the wrong ten seconds from the editor you hired and thought could read your mind. Not their fault. They had three hours and zero idea what you care about. Nobody wrote down what good looks like, so they guessed. And half the people who reach this level go back to Level 1 and never try handing off again. That's the belief I had to break. Window, Text, Transcript, Transcribe. Export it as an SRT. Now you read instead of watch. You read ten times faster than you watch. You can search words. You can't search footage. Find the line, type the timecode, the playhead jumps. This alone gave me my evenings back. But the judgement is still in your head. You paste the transcript in and type "find the best moments." Thirty seconds later you get a list. And it's fine. It's also exactly what it would give anyone. Robot taste. Quick reset on what Claude actually is, because this matters. Claude is a reader before it's a writer. Give it three hours of transcript and it holds all of it at once. It doesn't get tired at minute ninety like you and I do. The reading is the superpower. The problem at Level 5 is that you gave it nothing to read with. No rules. No audience. No idea what would embarrass the brand. So it averaged everything it knows, and average is what you got back. This is where people decide AI makes slop and quit. A skill is a set of instructions Claude follows every time. Your rules. What you always keep, what you always cut, who's watching, what's off limits. Written down once. Applied forever. Think of a shot list you hand a videographer who's never met you. They walk in cold and still shoot it your way. Here's what changes at Level 6. **It interviews you first.** Whose brand is this? Who's watching? What does the best clip from this day look like? You answer honestly. That's the step that makes it yours. **Then it reads everything** and returns every clip in order. Star rating. In point and out point, quoted word for word so you can search straight to the frame. The words that go on screen. Why it made the cut. **Then somebody cuts.** You, by typing timecodes. Or an editor, who never has to ask you a question because every question is already answered on the page. I didn't replace my editor. I replaced the part of me that was slowing my editor down. --- ## Where it breaks Three things, so you don't blame the skill. **Bad audio.** Bad transcript, bad clips. Use the lav, not the camera mic. **A trimmed timeline.** Every timecode points to the master. Trim it after transcribing and every number is wrong. Duplicate first, trim the copy, and make sure the timeline starts at 00:00:00:00, not one hour in. **Nothing worth clipping.** It finds what's there.
